Episcopal Motto

“Omnia in Bonum Diligentibus Deum”

Meaning: “In all things God works for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28). This motto expresses total trust in Divine Providence and serves as the guiding principle of episcopal ministry.

Symbols and Meaning

Sacred Scripture & St. Thomas Cross

This symbol represents the proclamation of Christ through the Word of God and the apostolic faith rooted in the tradition of St. Thomas. It reflects the ecclesial identity of the Syro-Malabar Church and the Bishop’s moral, spiritual, and pastoral responsibility.

“M” with Crown

The crowned “M” symbolizes the Blessed Virgin Mary. It expresses Marian devotion and total consecration to the Mother of God. The blue cord framing the Coat of Arms signifies the protection and guidance of Mary throughout episcopal ministry. It also reflects the spirit of “Totus Tuus” (Totally Yours).

Heart Touched by a Hand

This symbol conveys a call to mercy, healing, and pastoral charity. It reflects the mission of touching and healing the wounds of God’s people, especially in the spirit of the Jubilee of Mercy. It also signifies total commitment to the Lord, echoing the apostolic courage and witness associated with St. Thomas.

A Sign of Pastoral Mission

The Coat of Arms unites Scripture, Marian devotion, apostolic faith, and mercy. It reflects the pastoral mission of the Apostolic Visitor in Europe and serves as a visual catechesis of leadership, service, and communion in the Church.

Flight to Egypt

Bishop Stephen is consecrated for the Syro Malabar migrants. As with the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt,every migration is in the design of God and is guarded by an angel of God.

Seven Small Crosses

These crosses represent the Seven early Churches founded by St. Thomas, suggesting that the ministry to Europe is to be modelled after the Way of Thomas.

Twelve Stars in a Blue Background

The twelve stars stand for the Twelve apostles united around Bl. Virgin Mary. It is also the Emblem of the European Union. The Early Community under the leadership of Mother Mary is to be the role model as well as the goal of any Syro Malabar ministry in Europe.

Priestly Stole

It represents the priestly existence and ministry of Bp. Stephen.

Holy Spirit on the Mitre

It refers to the descending of the Holy Spirit at the Episcopal Consecration.
