Family Apostolate

Strengthening Syro-Malabar Catholic Families in Europe

The Family Apostolate aims to bring Syro-Malabar Catholic families together in fellowship to grow spiritually, build friendships and mutual support, encourage Christian family life, and deepen knowledge of the Catholic faith. It responds to the pastoral needs of migrant families living in diverse and secular European societies.

Vision & Mission

Vision

To form united, faith-filled Syro-Malabar families in Europe who live the Gospel and witness Christian values in daily life.

Mission

  • Strengthen marriage and family life
  • Encourage family prayer and sacramental participation
  • Support parents in faith formation of children
  • Build supportive family communities
  • Collaborate with other ministries of the Apostolic Visitation

Current Stage

The Family Apostolate is currently in its infant stage within the Apostolic Visitation for Europe. Ireland serves as a leading model where ministries have already been initiated and are actively growing, guiding future expansion across Europe.

Ministries (Ireland Model)

  • Mathruvedi – fellowship of mothers
  • Pithruvedi – fellowship of fathers
  • SMILE – family-centered faith fellowship
  • Family Units – small prayer and support groups
  • Marriage Preparation Course – preparation for Christian marriage
  • Pro-Life Ministry – promotion of life and human dignity

European Context

Syro-Malabar families in Europe often live away from extended family support and face cultural challenges. The Family Apostolate fosters belonging and fellowship, strengthens Christian identity, supports families amid migration realities, and works in communion with local pastoral structures.

Leadership

The Family Apostolate functions under the spiritual directorship of Bishop Rev. Dr. Stephen Chirappanath, Apostolic Visitator for the Syro-Malabar faithful in Europe.

Call to Families

All Syro-Malabar families in Europe are invited to participate in Family Apostolate initiatives, grow together in faith and fellowship, and support one another through prayer and community life.

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
