Fellowships

Faith, Fellowship, and Community Life among the Syro-Malabar Faithful in Europe

Fellowships play a vital role in nurturing Christian life within the Syro-Malabar communities in Europe. They provide spaces where the faithful come together for prayer, faith sharing, mutual support, and community bonding, especially in the context of migration and dispersed communities.

Through fellowships, the Apostolic Visitation encourages active participation of the faithful in the life of the Church beyond liturgy alone.

Vision & Mission

Vision

To build vibrant Syro-Malabar Christian communities in Europe where fellowship strengthens faith, unity, and a sense of belonging.

Mission

  • Deepen faith through prayer and spiritual activities
  • Promote unity and communion within communities
  • Encourage lay participation in the mission of the Church
  • Support members through fellowship and mutual care
  • Complement parish and mass-centre pastoral life

Nature of Fellowships

Fellowships are community-based and voluntary, prayer-oriented and faith-centered, and adapted to local pastoral realities. They function in harmony with parish leadership and other pastoral ministries.

Types of Fellowships (Developing Gradually)

Depending on local context and the size of communities, fellowships may include:

  • Prayer fellowships
  • Family and couple fellowships
  • Youth and young adult fellowships
  • Bible-sharing or faith-sharing groups
  • Cultural and devotional groups

These fellowships are formed gradually, responding to pastoral needs and the local realities of Syro-Malabar communities in Europe.

European Context

Syro-Malabar faithful in Europe often live far from extended family networks, experience cultural and linguistic diversity, and gather infrequently due to work and distance. Fellowships help overcome isolation, foster friendship and belonging, and sustain faith life between liturgical gatherings.

Organization and Guidance

Fellowships function under the guidance of the priest in charge, in communion with the Apostolic Visitator, with the involvement of committed lay faithful. Their activities remain aligned with the pastoral vision of the Apostolic Visitation.

Call to Participation

All Syro-Malabar faithful in Europe are encouraged to participate actively in fellowships, support one another in faith and life, and contribute their gifts for the growth of the community.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship.” (Acts 2:42)
