Lay Ministries

Forming Faithful Disciples and Christian Leaders

The Lay Ministries of the Apostolic Visitation are rooted in the mission of forming migrant Syro-Malabar communities in faith, morals, and Christian life, helping individuals grow as integral persons according to the teachings of the Church.

From the very beginning, the Apostolic Visitator envisioned a pastoral approach that goes beyond meeting liturgical needs—fostering communion, fellowship, and Gospel witness within and beyond the community.

Vision

Lay Ministries help Syro-Malabar communities grow in communion and fellowship, and witness to the values of the Gospel for the good of their own community and the people living in their vicinity.

Pastoral Priority

  • Strengthen faith formation at every stage of life
  • Respond to the pastoral needs of migrant families
  • Nurture communion and belonging within communities
  • Form lay faithful as witnesses of Gospel values in society

Formation through Ministries

Several ministries contribute significantly to the formation of individuals according to the teachings of the Church:

  • Children’s Ministry
  • Youth Apostolate
  • Family Apostolate, comprising: Mathruvedi, Pithruvedi, SMILE, Family Units, Marriage Preparation Course, and Pro-Life Ministry

Together, these ministries strengthen faith formation within families and communities and nurture Christian leadership.

Leadership Formation by Age

Lay Ministries are structured to foster Christian leadership appropriate to each age group, enabling gradual and responsible participation in the life of the Church:

CML / SM Teens

Little Flower Mission League for children and adolescents (13–17 years).

SMYM

Syro-Malabar Youth Movement for youth (18 years and above).

Mathruvedi

Mothers’ Forum for married women in the Church.

Pithruvedi

Fathers’ Forum (in certain regions, supported through St. Vincent de Paul Society).

Witness and Outreach

  • Live the faith authentically and support one another in community life
  • Bear witness to Gospel values through charity, responsibility, and service
  • Contribute positively to the wider society in which we live

European Context

Within the diverse cultural landscape of Europe, Lay Ministries help Syro-Malabar migrants remain rooted in faith while engaging respectfully and responsibly with the people and communities around them.

Call to Participation

All faithful are invited to take part in Lay Ministries according to their stage of life, offering their time, talents, and commitment for the growth of the Church and the good of society.

“Let your light shine before others.” (Matthew 5:16)
